Trans Cooling

I'm in the process of getting a built auto installed in my truck as I type, and the shop installing it is having an extremely difficult time getting my trans cooler (all stock) cleaned. It has been hooked to the truck for 20+ hours (it's a hot oil/air flush machine) and they aren't sure if it is going to come clean. I bought this:

Amazon.com: Tru-Cool Max LPD47391 47391 Low Pressure Drop Transmission Oil Cooler: Automotive Amazon.com: Tru-Cool Max LPD47391 47391 Low Pressure Drop Transmission Oil Cooler: Automotive

to use in line and eliminate the tiny 2 row stock external cooler. I've read countless threads about eliminating the radiator portion and running a 6.0 32-row alone- and i've read that eliminating the radiator portion is a bad idea.. What is the common consensus? I may be forced to eliminate the radiator portion if it won't come clean. Should I send the one I bought back and get a 32 row to run stand-alone If it won't come clean? ---OR---

I did buy the derale external filter mount kit, and was planning on using that post coolers. I'm thinking if the shop can get it best as possible clean, then mount the filter post coolers I should be Ok.. ?

Thank you for your input, I'm itching bad to get the trans done. I was originally told last thurs it would be done.. Now i'm not even counting on it being done before until next week. Patience.

A new radiator would be less money than a 6.0 cooler and use the trucool.
That's what I would do. The ones I have seen that 6.0 cooler is just too big.

Our trans guru Mark says NOT to delete the trans cooler in the radiator. I run the trucool and the radiator cooler and haven't seen over 205. That was with my 17k lb trailer on in 90+ degree weather and 40+ wind.

I'd get a new radiator if yours is that bad. JMO of course.

Same thing happened to me when I blew up my trans. It would not come clean so I bought a new radiator. Like Aaron says, the 32 row 6.0 cooler is to big but I put it in anyway because I have ruined two trans. It sticks down behind the bumper but I put a heavy duty screen over it to protect it. Still, if I ever hit something big with it, I'm screwed. Pulling my 'train' I've seen as high as 190° in the worse of conditions.

If you want a bulletproof trans cooling system install a new radiator with a trans cooler. Route the fluid from the radiator to a 6.0L cooler, then back to the trans. Anything else won't work as well.
