Rear End Leakage
97 EXP EB 5.4 100Kmi
My diff is leaking fluid at the input yoke. Is there a seal that can be replaced from that end or am I in for a rebuild on the diff?
If I do need a rebuild what is the price range for something like that? Does the dealer have to do it or can a private shop like Goodyear or Firestone auto centers handle it?Thanks for helping a newbie out! I have been watching this site for awhile and getting valuable info. Keep up the freedom of information!

It sounds like your pinion seal is leaking.
It's about an hour or so to replace it. A private shop can replace it but seeing that I work at a dealer I would have to recommened you take it to a dealer

If they shop doesnt know what they are doing they can destroy the pinion bearings, either by over or undertightening the yoke nut. There is a crush sleeve that adjusts the bearing preload and it has to be done properly.
