Lightbulb Alternative or Quantum Leap Forward?

I saw an episode of Top Gear (UK) that went in to detail about the Honda Clarity and now the world's largest automaker is introducing a fuel cell/hydrogen powered vehicle.

Hmmm. Toyota and Honda in the fuel cell game.

Don't think I'm interested in joining either camp, but that's an interesting article for sure.

I think Mr. Toyoda is right in predicting the end of gasoline fueled vehicles. The thing these fuel cell vehicles have in common with the Prius and all the other hybrid vehicles is the electromotive drive train and that is not news. Railroads have been doing this for years. Think that wimpy electric motor will never replace the internal combustion engine? Think again. My favorite is the White Zombie as found here.
Welcome to Plasma Boy Racing, home of White Zombie, the world's quickest street legal electric door slammer in the 1/4 mile drag.
Once you have an electric drive train in place, choices are almost endless as to the source of electricity. Only problem becomes storage. Batteries are heavy and their manufacture and disposal is hardly environmentally friendly. Hydrogen is difficult to handle and makes everyone think of the Hindenburg. Back to the Future style cold fusion is not yet here.
