Ok I bought an old ford 100 and I am thinking its a 51 but was doing some looking on the internet the other day and I seen a 53 with the same grill as mine so now Im kinda confused cna I get some help? Is there a way to read the VIN number and find the year and also how would I go about getting a title for it all I have is a bill of sale?
It looks to be a 51. Getting a title varies from state to state and in some states can be a very daunting task. Be sure not to spend any more on it until you can make sure it's yours.
Here is a chart of all the grills:
By the hood trim, it appears to be a '51. The 4th character in the vin is the year code. The hassle involved in getting your paperwork straight will depend on what state you're in. Some are easier than others. Not knowing where you are, you'll want to do your own research with your state's DMV or licensing department, etc., whoever is in charge of those things where you live.
Welcome and looks like you have most everything for a starter truck... I agree the hood looks like it's a '51, Cab is a 50, 51 or 52 (Large rear window).... From what I can see the bed is a late 50, 51, or 52 (smooth be sides)... More pics please... You can have a vin on 3 places on your truck, Passenger side Firewall, Glove box door and Passenger Side frame rail (top) forward of the front motor mount... More info Please
congratulations on your purchase yes it looks like a 51 & it is not a f100 it is a f1,like the guys have said befoe you do anything else get a title for it,like MOE said there are 3 places that have the vin # the glove box-the firewall-and it is stamped in the frame on the passenger side up by the motor mount-the one that you REALLY WANT is the one on the frame that is the most important one, some times the one on the firewall is missing & some times the one on the glove box door has been changed, good luck
That looks like a nice solid start. Maybe get her running,
and stopping. Than drive her around a while and let her
tell ya what all she may or may not need for upgrades.
Well paint it and put her back together.
No sense in fixing what ain't broke. It's
an old truck. I hope ya don't try to make
a new car out of her. But whatever ya build
we will be here to help.
Edit: Damn I spoke to soon. But that do look
sweet. Not for me but still sweet. I just don't
see the added exspence of the IFS and IRS.
It ain't likely you will be AX racing her. Disk
and duel res brakes would leave a lot of
money for other stuff and she would still
drive just fine on the interstate with a simple
gear change. I like to keep them simple and
carbed. Every time I get an EFI rig it craps
out and would cost more to fix (because I
can't fix it) than the rig cost me to start with.
Yeah I know some dont agree but it will have disk power brakes all the way around fuel injection A/C all the bells and whistles. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated on this build.
