Hey guys,
This may sound somewhat ridiculous, but here's what I'm considering. I own a 2004 f350 lariat, with the 6.8L V10. The truck has around 90k miles, and is in phenominal condition. The problem is, I want a diesel. How phesable and worth it is swapping a 7.3 or 6.0 into my truck? Thanks
Most do a cummins swap, search on this site or Google search ford cummins swap. Im in the same boat i have a pristine 2004 F350 that has the little 5.4. Yes it does what i want but i neeed more power, was thinking of a V10 swap myself
Haha alright. I don't think I'll be able to afford a swap at least for the next few months, but I'll definetly keep you updated. I'm kind of specing and pricing it out.
Personally, I've never really been a fan of the cummins, but I wouldn't take the option off the table just yet also. Thanks
Cheaper to swap trucks. Conversion kit is what, $7000? Plus the donor engine and trans. Then the wire harness, ecu, intercooler and plumbing, fuel system, etc etc.
Either get a complete diesel truck as a donor, or buy a different truck.
The trannies on the 7.3 are weak too, so plan for a built one with a billet converter.
Shop here specializes in the cummins swap and builds their own brackets for the install. Last I heard it was about 10k to do. Would guess that it would be close in price to have any of the engines done. Have both a v10 and a 6.0, Lots of differences between the trucks. I love my V10, getting to know the oil burner.
You really need a donor vehicle. I'm replacing the 6.0 in my truck because it blew up, so today I bought another whole truck for $3500. Runs perfect, needs some body work. Running engines alone go for over $3000 and you can't even test drive them!
You can get a running cummins with under 150k for around 1500.00 all over the place. And fordcummins.com sells the complete conversion kit for under 4k...... sounds like a good deal to me. Once i get my new job in the next few months ill be saying for a V10 or cummings swap
