You did good by asking. It's always good when you have a place like this where you can go and ask, like you said.
I don't want to go buy a part that I think is good and it ends up not being what i should get. And this site is very helpful and I learned alot from it and it helped me out alot
I've had 3 cars with solid motor mounts, the one I have now has a solid trans mount also. With a stock engine, they're hard to notice.
If you run a solid trans mount also, the trick is to drill the holes out to 1/2" to allow for twist without breaking the trans case. Works in a car, not too sure if it'd be enough in a truck. Street truck OK, 4x4,no.
I run them in my car out of necessity, but I can see a 15yr old wanting them... only way to know is if he likes is if he tries it.

If I go with solid motor mounts I will leave the stock rubber tranny ones. The motor that I will be running with the new motor mounts is a semi built 351w. Just a hotter cam and gt40 heads ported and polished and am edelbrock performer intake with a quadrajet so I think that counts as semi built. I might go with solids or poly. I'm not sure yet I'll just keep reading about it till I think what's best or what I want to try anyways
Yes.. way to many wires and electronic stuff. I was taught the old school way with carburetors and I don't have code readers and all that to work with the efi at the moment
Yuppers, me too...& I wish it hadn't changed, but it did. I'm 68 years old and just really learning about this new-fangled electronic stuff. Don't let it intimidate you, I'm finding that you don't have to be Einstein...you just have to be patient and learn. Having said that, I still long for the old 390 4bbl screaming with good glass packs on a good country road.
I love my efi to but with my truck becoming more of a play thing and less of a get me to work vehicel I'd be willing to do the same as well. Then if I wanna put even better heads in it or stroke it I don't have to buy and screw around with so much extra stuff that won't mean crap to me unless it was gonna remain a full time daily driver. I say let the kid do it if he wants. Sorry for the rant just hate seeing a kid getting bashed for going a different direction than the rest.
I run a solid drivers side mount on my Chevelle. The original style mounts can rip apart and let the engine flop around. If you're set on solid mounts, run one on the drivers side and stock mounts on the passenger side and transmission.
Speaking of the transmission, what trans do you have? If it's an electronic auto your going to need a controller when you ditch the EFI. If it's a C6 you'll need to figure out how to mount the kick down to a Q-jet.

My first truck which is the farm truck was a 1981 cab on a 1969 f350 frame and it has a 360 2 bbl with dual glasspacks...talk about screaming down a country road

Thanks... I don't really like to follow the crowd... but I like to be able to do this stuff without having to work all around wires

What does running one solid and one stock do? And it has a 1983 c6 and I put a hurst quarterstick shifter in the truck when I made it 4x4 so I shouldn't need a kick down???? since I still shift from 1st to 2nd to drive
