I struggled with this as well on my 70 short bed crew. I finally came up with about a 40 gallon rear mount tank and it worked out nicely. I posted some specifics and pictures here (starting with post #30).

Here is my tank, it is made by Handy Industries, this one is a 30 gal but they also make a 50 gal. The price on their web site is $447 for the 30gal and $635 for the 50.
I like it well enough this is the second truck I've had it in.

I had a 100 gallon tank in the bed of mine. Punched a hole in the floor of the bed and ran a piece of copper the the tank valve.Worked like a dream. I would suggest and inline filter on each tank before the valve, then another between the valve and the carb.
