Hello All, I have read many post and tried so many things I don't kow where to begin to start. I cannot get gas to go into the tank on my 1986 F 150. I bought thetruck from a one owner friend. He put in a new gas tank several years ago and did not mention having this problem. The truck was sitting for a few years and only driven a few times. I have removed the filler tube and the inner small vent tube is there and not kinked. I have repositioned the filler tube many different times a little at a time, no help.
I am also having a problem that just started. The engine will start and idle with no problem. While driving the engine will die after a few miles or not even a mile. It sometimeswill start right back up or let it sit for a min and it will start but slow to start like the battery is week. I can give more details on any questions anyone has, and any info anyone can give is greatly appreciated. Thanks
What engine? The little hose inside the big hose IS being held in position by the metal clip inside correct?
Can you fill it at about half-speed at the pump? Even after fixing my little hose and clipping it back in place, I still could not fill at full speed. They say they re-designed the filler hoses on the later trucks, maybe you could go junk yarding and find one of those.
best mod for a pre 87.the only thing really to modify is getting rid of the little holder in the tank neck ( for the inner corrigated tube so the new style will fit in).if you get a newer style-make sure the inner tube doesn't move/separate from the unit as there is a hidden clip way up in the metal tube that holds it)
