I have long tube headers, I didn't build the truck, and it in storage right now, otherwise I'd be happy to tell you how it is set up. According to the receipt from 1999, I have chassis exit headers, part number 79760A.

L and L Products here is a link to them. They are pretty pricey.

Yes but as far as I know they have been having SERIOUS problems with the headers. From not having the nickel plating process working to TERRIBLE fitment.

It is a shame because they USED to make a really nice header

I'm thinking (for the price, including hardware & gaskets) I may go stainless.
100%+ feedback and one week delivery.

Do 3/8" flanges sound too thin?

Those look like they will dump directly into the engine crossmember.
I have had a set of hedmans on my 460 truck since 07, had the headers themselves since 03... Lol
They are just the cheapies, 89340 as mine is a stick.
As much as people complain about cheap headers I have never had an issue with them, you need to use good gaskets, and make re-torquing the bolts part of normal maintenance or buy locking fasteners. The only thing that is a pain with most headers is the 3 bolt flange at the collectors, you need to use a good quality gasket like a copper one. A ball and socket or slip in configuration is better but is not commonly found.
I have no clue where the auto collectors end up, but this is what my setup looked like many moons ago when the truck still had TTB.

It is below the trans but it does not hang down any lower than the spring hangars.

Yep. If you have a automatic tranny, good luck pulling the pan and doing any maintenance on it.
