I search this site a few times already but have not found a solution to my prob. Well im swaping out my engine cuz it dont run but I disconected everything and have the engine siting on my engine jack w/o any mounts, so its just dangling right now. I cant seem to pull the engine foward though. The transmision is holding the engine from being pulled. I think is has something to do with the clutch fork holding the engine with the trany cuz every thing else is disconnected. my question is how do you remove the clutch fork?? Oh and sorry obout the paragraph thing My ENTER key broke today and I cant use the enter key so this might be a little hard to read.
You might want to add what kind of vehicle you are working on. I doubt the clutch fork would hang you up, though. Is this a seperate bell housing? I normally leave the tranny bolted to the bell housing, and unbolt the bell housing from the engine block. If you are sure that you have found all the bolts, I am guessing that the tranny input shaft is scored and binding up in the pilot-bearing in the flywheel. If you can get to the bolts attaching the pressure plate/clutch to the flywheel, try removing them to relieve the stress on the pilot bearing.
Make sure all bolts are out, there are some in hard to see places. Also IF you have splash pan at the front of the bellhousing, you need to remove that, I once spent all day yanking an engine with the splash guard still installed, doh.
Unless there is something weird about your model, the only things that should hold an engine in are , mounts, bellhousing bolts. Sometines the following things can hold thingsup, starter, exhaust manifold, any hoses, engine braces(rare).
I assume the radiator, and any accessories like alternator and AC are already out or not in the way.
Good Luck, it's the little things that can sometimes make pulling an engine a PITA.
I have one more item to add to the list of things to check for - those stoopid little braided copper grounding cables! I was in Jim's situation once fighting against one of those I missed... they sometimes put them in really obscure places.
Sorry for not repling sooner but thank for all your help. I actualy got the tranny out and replaced the engine now the truck is running ok. This might seem kind of dum but I had forgoten to take out one bolt that holds the engine and tranny together (thanks Jim& thpnalb)
PS. I also fixed the enter key in my pc, but I did check everythig you guys said before finding out my prob.
