Leaking Diff

My '46 Half ton has an original banjo diff and it leaks quite badly. I am going to clean it again totally and see if I can find if the leak is coming from the nuts or perhaps old gaskets. I hope its the nuts so I can remove, clean and replace with Loctite thread sealer. If not I fear its going to be the old gaskets which looks like they have never been replaced.

Is this a difficult job? looks to me like pulling the rear end almost totally apart may be required, or is there a quicker or cheats way of doing it?

There is no acceptable quick way to replace the gaskets on either side of the banjo. The gaskets are the adjustment for the ring to pinion gear lash. Before you take it apart read up on making this adjustment.

Thanks for that, and I will definitely read up first.

I do love your answer, there is no ACCEPTABLE way, ha ha. I spoke to a guy down here, who went to the trouble of buying new gaskets and then loosened each side of the banjo, CUT THE GASKET and then installed them using lots of gasket goo. He told me he put the cut at the top of the diff so it wouldn't seep....guess what, it still leaks Unbelievable!!
