Rear diff gasket?

Am I OK to just make a rear diff gasket with RTV compound? I am worried about using too much and having the compound getting into the gears and such. I seem to remember having trouble finding one last time I looked for one online.

THanks!

Oh, I guess last time I looked I wasn't looking for "sterling differential cover gasket". I must have tried to look for something like "ford 10.25" instead of sterling, because now I am getting a lot of results.

Still I can go and find this gasket now I'm sure, but is it safe to just use RTV?

I think if a gasket was intended, you should use one, with a thin layer of RTV. If it came from the factory with a gasket, you should replace it with a new one.

Use RTV, I'm pretty sure thats what the service manual says. Its what I used on mine when I rebuilt the limited slip.
As far as not using to much, you don't need a huge bead, if its squishing out a bunch when you install in, you used too much.

Just use RTV. No gasket necessary. Use a thin bead all the way around and you'll be fine. Let it dry for a couple hours before you fill it with gear oil.
