With a 4.6 you want the Allen engineering Eaton charger on there to give it some low end..You'd swear you gained a 100 cubic inch..Best power for the money. With an automatic it helps even more to get you off the line.Dont know if it would beat a Lightning, but would be a heck of a lot faster than how it is now.Jim Roal out of IL. is the guy to talk to about ford supercharging..I dont have it handy but I can get you his Homepage addy..
I was licking my chops at these too! I was talking to a performance shop owner near where I work and he said the BEST single upgrade for these 4.6L motors was and Eaton/Magnuson supercharger. All you really have to do is bolt them on (of course there is more to it than that). He said it feels like you have a Big Block under the hood. Hmmm.....if only it weren't so damn expensive.
Procharger claims to give you a 60-65% increase in HP. I'm not sure which supercharger is better, but one thing I do know is that your truck will be a hell of alot faster with one of these babies bolted under tha hood.
I included a link below to show you what a 4.6 looks like with a Procharger bolted on. http://procharger.com/TRUCK_SUV/97-02Ford_uh.shtml
I have a 01 f-150 extended cab with the 4.6 L in it. I have a Kennebell supercharger on it and it runs awesome. It has great power off the line and in the long run. I have 20's on the truck and even with those heavy rims it still has alot of power. I have yet to run it down the 1/4 mile, but hopefully next weekend i will.
Let me know if u have any feedback on this....
Is there a supercharger that maintains good performance but doesn't cost over $3,000? If a supercharger costs $4,000, what does a 5.4L crate motor cost.
I need something for my 4.6L to pull my trailer easier than it pulls now.
There are tons of superchargers out there. Paxton, kenne bell, Vortec, Powerdyne, etc. etc. etc. The basics come down to this. Most will perform pretty close to each other in terms of HP increase. HP increase is going to be directly related to the PSI boost for the most part and the main variance between all of them is not so much how much HP they give but where in the powerband they give it. Most superchargers give you the typical 50-65% HP increase. Check out Jeg's or Summit. I saw some 4.6 SC's in there for $2.5K. I know that if you want to rebuild the bottom end with stronger mains to hold the extra power gains you could drive the 4.6 to dizzy heights of HP but it would become an absolute GAS GUZZLER.
Would a turbo or twin turbo perform just as well as a supercharger. I know turbo's can have what they call turbolag but superchargers can cause parasitic loss to the motor.
Do they even make turbos for F150's?
Which one is better in your opinion?
