Hi I'm new to this website...I've got a 1996 7.3l power stroke f350 4x4 4door long bed 204xxx miles 5sp zf trans. I haven't had this truck long maybe only a year and it just doesn't have the power of 7.3s I have drove prior to owning this one I am a maintenance freak I always change my oil before 3000miles including the top end oil fuel filter air filter new thermostat new cam sensor new glowplugs(all from ford) I don't burn any oil she hits on all 8 cylinders and fires up like no problem in the cold 0° I'm just wondering why I don't have any good ponies help me out guys
Define "no power", and what year were those 7.3's that you're comparing this one to?
I can go down the highway just fine plenty of power to do that but when accelerating it picks up speed much slower than ones I have drove of the same year...also it doesn't smoke at all even when lugging or towing....I have 3 1/2" exhaust turbo back no cat no muffler
Make sure the MAP sensor hose is connected to the passenger intake plenum and it is not clogged. You can also unplug the MAP sensor electrical connection and take the truck for a spin, CEL light will come ON but that's OK. If it runs a lot better then the MAP sensor or hose could be defective.
Some say not to do it but on my old mule I've filled the filter with Power Service and ran it.
On the old 6.9s, the metering valve in the fuel pump would sometimes gum up, and the engine would die if you let off the throttle quickly. The fix was to remove the filter, drain it, then reinstall it filled with Powerservice Diesel Klean or which ever fuel additive/cleaner of your choice, start it and let it run for a short time , kill it and let it set over night. The next day you would take it for a drive running it like you stole it, and by the time you got back the problem was fixed.

Or to just fill it up with automatic transmission fluid... Same principle, same effect.
