I have done searches here and by the ford part number for the repair kit. I have the column out of my '92 F350 4x4 7.3 ZF truck. Non tilt wheel. I have been doing a lot of reading on the subject, but everything says this square black plastic piece should pop off and next is the circlip and spring. I need to separate the shaft from the housing to replace the disentegrated bearings, but can't slide the plastic sleeve off the shaft, It seems the shaft has a ridge or cut keeping the plastic sleeve from coming off. Some of what I have read says it's tough, but keep prying. I don't want to break this piece. I think it might cancel the turn signals? Anyhow, any advice? I live on an island and plan to be on the mainland by a ford garage on Tuesday. I will call them tomorrow to see if they have the Ford repair kit # F6AZ-3605-AA. Thanks in advance.
Held it over a steaming tea kettle which softened the stiff plastic and along with the PB, off it came. Picking up bearings tomorrow at ford, Thanks, GB These have easier steering columns.
nice collection.
and i agree, the pre 92 trucks had very easy to work on columns.
on the flip side though, after 92 the trucks and cars used the same column. so if there are no trucks in the junk yard, you can just grab a crown vic column and bolt it in.
