Finding a bad one is not easy on a V10. Easy is putting a oscilloscope pick-up on a coil and a pick-up on a spark plug wire and running at load, the way we use to do it before all the electronics. Can't do the same now as there are 10 separate coils with 10 separate signals not regularly monitored by the computer.

BTW, when I removed the plugs/boots/coils at 190K I found no appreciable wear/tear on the components in question (they had never been off the engine in 10years 190K). I suspect the culprit in boot damage is more related to people tearing component parts apart, ie, swapping coils around trying to find a faulty one!
I am sticking to my post entirely.

If it's running good, chances are it's because of winter fuel and increased idling from the cold temperatures. Depends where you live. Otherwise, start with what the other guys recommended.

I know that driving in the heat of Phoenix cooked my coil packs pretty good. Heat accelerates wear on pretty much everything.

When I purchased my truck at 126K I changed the plugs. After the plug change only one coil pack was bad. I now have 9 original coil packs.

There is no reason to replace them all, unlesss they have failed.

Yeah, heat and cold act alike, they put strain on parts. Here in SC we can have hot summers, but usually not as bad as you guys in AZ!

On the one hand my Ex has had little-no issue until recently in the 190K range so I find the posts with guys having problems in the 50K-100 intriguing. On the other hand having 200K on the truck components and thinking they're all OK for another 200K is laughable in my mind.

I'll have to dive under the hood soon on my Ex to chase down the bad coil as mpg has dropped from 14/15 non-pull to 10/11 now. And no it's not gas quality. Our blends don't get nearly as weird as those used way north. It's definitely a bad coil(s).
