10 inch clutch? I have a 1960, 223, 3 on the tree, non synchro 1st. Most of the searches on this forum say a 10 inch clutch. However, I do see other sizes from time to time. Is there a number on the bell housing or tranny that will tell me for sure?

Thanks,
No way to tell that I know of. You will have to tear into it. I know mine wasn't a 10 inch but I don't recall now if it was 10.5 or 11..
The shop manual says 10 inch for a 2 wheel drive with a six cylinder but who knows what who ever has put in there over the years. The maunual also calls out an 11" for a 4x4!. Are you planning for replacement? Nice to get parts ahead of time but not always possible. Sounds like a shop manual should be on your list.
I have a shop manual. There was a ten inch set in it that I replaced. With everything back in place, the clutch fork is all the way forward (toward the front of truck) as it comes out of the bell housing. As a result it can't be adjusted on the rod. Can't get the 1/4 inch gap between the nut and rod unless it is almost against the slave. No free travel in the pedal. I was wondering if it came with a different size clutch, and the last owner had put a 10 inch in instead of what should have been in.
How did the new parts compare with the old ones? It sounds like you got a different style of pressure plate or the wrong throw out bearing. The basic diameter of the clutch would not affect the condition you describe.
My transmission guy said that the new clutch and pressure plate matched the old. He did not say if the bearings matched. I had a clutch shop look at my parts and there was some question about the throw out bearing, but they finally decided it was the right one. I had some wear on the bearing hub and the fork, and I am waiting on those parts as well as a new release lever trunnions.
