I'm working on a 1987 F-250. Been having problems with low/irratic guages. Did some checks and decided to get a new IVR. Pulled out the instrument cluster and there is no sign of a IVR or a place to put one! Looked at a few manuals and wiring diagrams and they show an IVR. Does anybody know of a different location? Does this truck have a different system? This truck has a 460 with a carb and so far it seems to be a mix and match of the '87 and the '88 with fuel injection and diagrams not always jiving.
Once you remove the instrument panel , It should be located on the lower left section of the panel , Its about 2 in long & and inch or so wide , it will have 2 , small screws holding it to the circuit board . Make sure its the cause of the problems , that little device is $75 .
I have an 88 460 and my oil pressure gauge reads low. When I rock my fuel transfer switch back and forth the oil pressure increases. Could this be caused by the regulator also?

Thanks for the reply, but here's the problem. I've had the cluster off and it's just not there! No place for it either. I've replaced a couple of IVR's on earlier model cars and trucks so I know what they look like. I did my diagnoses by connecting a 12 volt test light between the oil ppressure pigtail and a ground, and got a dim steady light. A good IVR should show a pulsing light. By the way, this has a "real" oil pressure sending unit.
I did some research and found that there is a IVR listed for this truck and can pick one up at NAPA for $25.00.
I have a problem with the oil pressure gauge also, except mine is reading way high. The truck (1990 F150 4X4 302 auto) originaly had no tach, so I purchased a instrument cluster with a tach out of a (1988 F250 460). The gauge read correct on the original cluster. Could the regulator be the problem because I really do not want to spend $125 on new oil and gas gauge. THANKS
