Question startup
when my 2000 4.6l is first started the revs pop up to about 2k.
If the truck is warmer maybe only 1.6k rpm. Is this normal? I bought it with 38000 on it.

Sounds about right, as long as it comes back down fairly fast.

why do they rev it up before it has oil pressure?

It should have oil pressure as soon as it starts if you are using a quality oil filter(Motorcraft) with a good anti-drainback valve in it. If not, you may have bearing clearance issues.
