How Many Miles is To Many Miles

I am looking at getting a F250 (6.0 or 7.3) but as the title states how many miles is the point where it is a high mileage car. I see some F250 with 450k on them with all original parts... so if i can find one with 200K - 270K is that like a VW jetta with 60K on it?

Thanks
Mike

Maintenance, maintenance and maintenance with a dash of good luck is the key to a 6.0's health. Maintenance records on a high mileage 6.0 is essential. Without them the luck comes into play.

good point CJ, I think the guys that find FTE has a chance to Maintain the trucks well, there are other forums that bash the 6.0 and not really help the Owner out so they sell not knowing How to work and Maintain the Vehicle, There are guys with 500 thou on there trucks and still driving well. mine has around 170 and some change with the original Injects , I have done some mods like Blue spring, BPD oil cooler with external coolant filter, and easy mods to help with Maintained. run the right Coolant with flushes on time, run the 5w40 oils with oil changes on time ,use a diesel fuel additive every fill and you wont go wrong.

The reason i ask is i am looking at a 2006 F250 Lariat 6.0 Diesel that is CLEAN that has 421K on it. Pass on it or is it something to consider? I already sent the owner an email to ask whether he has the maintenance records....

Would be worth a look.
Also depends ou where the miles came from.
Price will also come into play somewhere also.

With the mileage being as high as it is and only 8 years old i would think they are highway miles (it would be 53,000 miles a year or 150 miles a day for 365 days)

As far as price they are asking $7900.

I bought a 2004 F250 with 297k miles on it for $5800. I think at that mileage you need to be ready to immediately spend a few thousand on the standard issues.

I am now having electrical issues with mine after doing the EGR delete, head studs, and other little preemptive fixes. If you are willing to work on it yourself you can do a lot of stuff to it without breaking the bank.

From my research and experience, at that kind of mileage you should expects to have to replace some electrical components, maybe wiring harness', and the obvious stuff like front end components.

I bought my 06 F350 for $5k it had 180k miles on it. I had to do all the "normal" stuff and then some along the way. It hasnt been too bad. Im now at 225k. There are some good deals out there for sure on the 6.0. But I think its like a box of chocolates....lol

I think that truck is worth about half that at least in my neck of the woods here in michigan. I have been trying to sell my 05 and I can't seem to even get 6500 out if it. Mine has 276k on it.
