Bought an 86 f250 6.9idi diesel, poured white smk on the way home and had hardly any power barley could clime a hill, put a new injection pump on it, now it still has no power and when I had to the floor to see what it would do it started popping 3 or 4 times I let off it and took it back home. Any ideas on what could be going on?
Did the white smoke smell like fuel or sweet like coolant? Check the radiator while running; if there are bubbles while running most likely it is a blown head gasket. Did the smoke stop with the new ip?
The smoke didn't stop but it got a little better, and pretty sure the exhaust smells more on the fuel side, didn't check for bubbles in the radiator I can do that now.
Would that cause it to have no power I changed one when I did the Injection pump and it looked fine the seals were still in good shape, I Dnt wanna spend $350 on injectors if I can run sum other test and figure it out
a bad injector can totally kill performance.there are other ways to find one (or more) other than the method used there.one quick method to find a stuck injector can be simply feeling the hard lines.if you feel one noticeably hotter than the others, then you know you've found a real bad one.i haven't tried it with the diesel (cus it's a clattery/loud engine) but you can take a long handle/screwdriver and place it on the injector with the engine running, and place your ear up to the handle of the screw driver and you can hear a nice sharp "click" as it pops.if you hear a much more faint "clicking" on one then you found a weak/bad one.
