Hey fellow 57 to 60 fans. I'm new to this forum . just found it actually. Working on my 3rd truck project. First 2 were for my sons. This one's mine. A 1960 panel on a more modern frame. Have the frame mostly completed. It's a 77 Chateau van which I shortened down to 110 inches. Mostly stripped and painted (still in progress) It will carry a 302 with an AOD behind it. Makes a great drivetrain. I have the body on the old frame ready to separate sometime in August 03. So... I can answer some mod questions based on experience and maybe help with some spare parts.
Welcome! Sounds like a good project. FTE depends on great numbers of reader/writers so that we can lall earn from each others' experiences and, often times, mistakes. It won't be long till the 460 and bigger guys see this post and start in with their good-natured ribbing about your "girly" 302. I have a 289 with a c4 in my 54 f100. They're just jealous that we are as fast as they are and get twice the mpg. If you can post pictures it will be great. Good Luck, John in Sacramento
Hey welcome to fte! That sounds like a neat project. Are you going to keep the twin I beam front suspension on the econline frame? Did they come with disc brakes? Sorry for all the questions but I wanted to know why nobody else has ever done this swap. Goodluck, keep us posted on the info and ask some questions! -4speed
Thanks for the welcomes. Yeah the 302 and AOD are a nice combo for the highway. Using a 2:75 rear should be fairly fuel efficient. The reason for the 77 frame is just that....discs, PS, PB and IFS.
Welcome! Sounds like I might could use your input as time goes along as well. I'm considering a 302 w/AOD for my '59 F-100, primarily cause I want a daily driver I can afford to drive. Actually my son thinks he gonna get it, but we'll see. Good Luck!!
