No wonder I can't find a 300 Six donor...you guys got em' all.
I've been trying to trade my 460 In my 77 f-150 for a 300 Six for soooo loooong now.
I'm afraid if it don't happen soon, all the 300's will be recycled!
Thudpucker,
A friend of mine in Muscle Shoals [about 70 miles from you] has a 1986 F150 with 4.9L/300 engine which is available. It came from a local utility department with reportedly 61,000 miles.
If interested, PM me and I will give you his contact information.
I had three of them (300 Six/4spd,4x4) in Alaska. Two Bronco's and a F-150. All were stick shift, 4x4's that were great vehicles.
The common problem was the Exhaust manifold cracking. The last Manifold I bought was nearly $400.
I made a 'heat blanket' of Tin, to cover the Exhaust manifold, to keep the Temp changes from such extremes.
The 72 F-150 got the same gas mileage as the 89 Bronco with the emissions. About 13 Mpg on average. But in the Winter the mileage always went down to 11 or so.
That 'Heat blanket' brought the mileage up, and also helped the engine Idle when starting in Below-Zero temps.
One 300 knocked, but the oil pressure was good. It ran that way for two years.
I'm sure it was in the Valve train somewhere, but never found it.
