Steering rod no start!!

Steering rod no start!!
Hey guys, I really need some help! I just installed a 4" lift on my truck and tonight I went to start it for the first time and the key would not turn at all. Further inspection showed that the steering wheel had 0 play in it like it usually does so I went under the truck and unbolted the steering rod from the pitman arm and then I was able to turn the key without a problem. My question is, do I need to adjust the steering rod length in order for it to remove all of the tension from the pitman arm???
**With my lift I installed the the correct length drop pitman arm.
