So I am replacing the two rockers and bridges on my truck. Was going to remove one head bolt and re torque the new one then do the next one. Went to put in the new head bolt and it would not torque down. Low and behold it's not the right size. It's to small. Funny thing is I got the bolts from my local ford dealer. How is it possible that they sell me the wrong head bolts. Are there two different sizes? Or has my block beem drilled and re threaded for some crazy reason?.Mine look to be about 8 and 1/4 inch long and about 1/2 inch or 13 mm in diameter.
Is there a way to tell if I have the non tty head bolts. It would be great to re use these bolts since nobody in my town can seem to get me the head bolts I need. I am tempted to run with re using the bolts I removed and check them for torque in about 2 or 3 weeks. Any thoughts. Maybe by then I can locate two new ones. I need my truck back on the road I have been borrowing my friends car and he needs it back
You should go back and read the link I posted about TTY bolts.
They are permanently changed unlike normal bolts that stretch and
relax back. If you reuse them you run a very high risk of one snapping
down in the engine. You don't want that to happen. If it did the cab might
have to come off to get enough room to lift the head from the broken bolt.
