There is no serial number on the engine. If originality is a concern, you simply make sure that the casting numbers make sense for the year model and if you want to take it further, you make sure that the date codes are reasonable, relative to the production date of the truck. Even with all that, there is no way to know if the engine is original with 100% certainty.
292 was the only factory installed V8 in '64 f 100's. Distributor will be in the back of engine near firewall. Look for a I D tag on coil bolt. This tag was a new for mid '64 models, if still there, it might be covered in grease and grime. Thunderbird 312's, which look very similar, were a common swap back in the 60's and could be a possibility also. If the distributor is not in the back of the engine, a newer engine was swapped in add will be harder to ID.
