Need proper thermostat for my 400. My problem is not making enough heat. Makes heat but once I get rolling things cool down pretty quick. Have a 180 degree in it now. Will be going to elec fans soon to help control temp. Usually these engines run hot but not this situation.
I'd suggest flushing the system and installing a 195 thermostat. If that doesn't do it, another trick is putting some cardboard in front of the radiator.
I agree - flush it. But, start by back flushing, meaning put the water in where it has been coming out. That way what is plugging the radiator should be blown off instead of more tightly plugged.
And, you are using the proper type thermostat? One made for the Cleveland?

Apparently using wrong part. Have aluminum radiator and it's good to go! Believe my coolant system working too good. Or just wrong thermostat. What is the correct part#.

I ordered the Gates 192 degree, part #33129, from Amazon.
