I always bleed the caliper after I change the pads. I also will often crack the bleed screw to push the piston back in. I just do a few pumps per caliper unless I am also changing the brake fluid. If I have to change a caliper I'll clamp off the hose.
I had a funny one the other day. My friend changed the pads on his bike, and I had told him to crack the bleed screw when he pushed the pistons back in. He didn't do that, and ended up with a dragging front brake. It turned out he had topped up the master cylinder with the old pads, after he pushed the pistons in the master was totally filled and would keep some residual pressure on the caliper not letting the pads retract properly. I bled out the excess fluid and all was fine.
I had one but I think someone stole it from me a few years back or I lent it to someone and forgot I'll be getting another soon as I'll be doing all four corners on the wife's explorer pretty soon. Need to fix my air compressor as
well seeing as how everything on the underside of the truck is going to take brute force to deal with the first time around lol.
