351w swap ground issue

I recently swapped a 96 351 into my 91 f250 I have checked everything but the truck will not start. The volt meter is reading low voltage despite charging the battery. When I try to start it, the small ground wire from the back of the block to the firewall gets very hot and sometimes smokes. I have checked all of the connections and cleaned all of them. I am honestly stumped at this point.-----------

Sounds like a loose or missing ground cable. The starter is drawing the current through a different path. Where does the negative battery cable terminate?

It sounds like you may have forgotten the ground cable connection at the engine block... it "should" be somewhat close to the passenger side motor mount.
