My dad has a 2002 F350 dually and i have an early 99 f350 dually we both have the exact same things done to our trucks except for the air intakes and his truck runs like a scalded dog my seems like it bogs down when i mash the gas but at half throttle she accelerates better could it be the air intake
We both have DP tuners on the same settings MDRP turbo back exhaust and he has a 7 layer AFE intake and i have a K&N
Why is the old mans truck faster and accelerates better than mine
To me it feels like my tranny just isnt keeping up with the engine
E99 has much smaller turbo (spools faster, though) think it came from the factory with a wicked wheel.
The early99 has 120cc(AB code) injectors and the Late99-03 has 140cc(AD code) injectors.
The E99 has 2" intake plenums which lets in less air and the L99-03 has 3" intake plenums.
The E99 has a 15* swash plate HPOP. The L99-03 has a 17* swash plate HPOP. Which will cause less power.
Nothing to do with power but some other differences.
The E99 has one glow plug relay. The L99-03 has one glow plug relay and one air intake heater
relay side by side (along with early '99 CA models) . Both relays are on the passenger side of the fuel
bowl toward the front of the truck.
The E99 track rod has smaller mounting bolts than the L99-03. (except for DRW trucks)
The E99 has shallower rotors than the L99-03. (except DRW trucks)
The E99 has shorter hub-bearings than the L99-03. (except DRW trucks)
The E99 front axle U bolts are square where they go over the spring pack. The L99 U bolts are
round. (except DRW trucks)
The E99 has a different pitman arm than the L99-03. (except DRW trucks)
The E99 does not have the AIH like the L99-03. (except CA model)
The E99 does not have the automatic transmission fluid cooler in the radiator.
The E99 has different size swaybar.
The E99 has no indicator light showing that "cruise" is on. L99-03 has a cruise light that will come on when you set the cruise control. The E99 has the light in the dash already. A newer PCM(Yes it will plug in and will run better too) must be used to make the cruise light illuminate. It is a green light on the right side edge, half way up.
There is no reason an Early-Build 1999 truck won't keep up with a 2002 (apples to apples comparison such as cab configuration, transmission, box length, single or dual rear wheel, etc.).

I agree... A few years back I thought my "tuned" E99 was running fine until I couldn't keep up with my friends all stock late 99. Turns out I had almost no fuel pressure at WOT.
I would start there... I added a fuel pressure gauge, & rebuilt my Fuel pressure regulator.
Sure, but not run away and leave you behind hp. Manuals also came with more hp than the autos. Of course that's in stock configuration. Once tuners get involved the differences are harder to notice.
So is there anyway i can put a fuel pressure tester on this unit to see what the PSI is its strange because truck revs up fine but it seems to go alot smoother and faster without having the pedal to the metal
Where is the fuel pressure regulator and is it possible the fuel pump could be weak

Here is the fuel pressure regulator/relief. The tapered oring was buggered on my bowl sending most of my fuel back to the tank instead of to the heads.
I was seeing 30-ish lbs at idle and about 5psi at WOT.
Believe it or not the truck seen to run great. Just didn't have much giddy up.
I have both, an e99 and an 02 as well. The 99 is a manual with 4:10 gears and a utility bed. It has a mild tune on it to add some get up to it, as well as 140cc reman injectors. It is sluggish coming off idle, but when it hits 2000rpm's, it's like someone kicks it in the pants.
Idle doesn't count. Your truck idles fine. It also apparently does pretty good at half throttle. Your problem is when you floor it you don't have the power.
That means get out on the road and get up to 40 mph or so on a straight deserted stretch of road and mash the go pedal to the floor and then watch to see what the fuel pressure does. Uphill with a heavy load is good too.
Would i be able to do the same thing by connecting the fuel pressure tester and mashing the gas in my driveway because i dont have any gauges installed in my truck im just using a regular fuel tester
