I need to replace the motor in my 93 F250 its a 5.8(351) ....I have access to a 5.8 out of a 93 E250 van...my truck is four wheel drive the van is not....so the question is what changes if any will have to make to make the motor out of the van work in the truck thanks
Are they both auto trans? I put a donor 5.0 from a manual into a F150 auto and found that the crank was not machined to fully accept the auto. Caused much mystery and frustration.
I'm sure someone with better info will be along soon...
Leojr the only thing you should have had to do to make a standard trans motor work in front of an auto trans was remove the pilot bearing. I have seen cranks not machined for pilot bearings but hose where GM cranks
wtroger, thanks for dudef150 in the right direction!
The 5.0 that came out of my Dad's '87 with a manual was the donor engine that I was mating to my '92 auto trans.
The different depths of the crank was a complete surprise. But when the trans was tightened to the engine the starter couldn't budge the crankshaft. After a small amount of the trans shaft removed it fit fine.
I'll never assume manual and auto cranks are the same again.

Of topic, but, did you reuse the manual starter? The nose is different between a starter for the manual and auto. I can't remember which way, but if you use the wrong starter it won't work properly.
