There is nothing wrong with that many miles for a 7.3, but try and get all the maintenance records as possible. Also as a parking lot quick check for motor longevity is to take off the oil cap and place back upside down. If it blows off the oil fill tube stay away. If it sits there and rattles off (engine vibration) thats fine. Little to no blow by.

I remember when my truck only had 260,000 miles on it. I'll hit 494 today on the way to the inlaws.

That being said, it all depends on how it was taken care of. I've seen trucks with less than 100,000 miles on them with a dusted engine.

Do the oil cap trick with engine warm. Get them to run car fax.
It should be pretty nice inside and out for $9500 IMO.

The miles aren't as important as the maintance

About 6 months ago I bought a 2000 7.3 4x4 SC SB with 228,000 for $9K. I have since done the tune up/maintenance items located in this post.

If the truck looks good and you are comfortable with it, buy it. It will inevitably have some minor problems are things you are not happy with, but it is 15 years old and that should be taken into consideration. Mine runs well and does everything I ask it it to do. The truck makes me smile every time I get into it.

Good luck with your decision and keep us updated.

I'd jump on it if it's what your looking for but then I'm not a good "gauge". My experience was a long search and ended up paying way more than I should have (based on what I've heard on this forum). Most of the diesels I found were much more and I looked using the following baseline. . .
Dodge
2003 to 2004½ Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500

Chevy/GMC
2006 to 2007 Chevy and GMC 2500 and 3500

Ford
1999½ to 2000 Ford Super Duty

Look at all the small stuff, like does it have a good spare and the tools to change it. Does it look like the wiring has been messed with and if so, was it done well? Is the oil level correct. When were the ball joints replaced or the steering gear? While the number of miles is low for this engine, IMO, it's high for the front end on these rigs.

I just dumped 3K into the front end (parts and labor) and It only had 90K on it.
No idea what the truck was used for - just sayin.

I still love my truck as it meets my needs and in the end, that's what counts.

These trucks can be expensive to own, if you dont do the majority of maintenance & repairs yourself,& your at the right place to learn.
