yup if you have 3 positions now,the switch is toast and like stated the harness probably as well.
you can buy both at amazon/ebay or your local parts house.do replace both.the harness isn't much.

the reason why this happens is because the wire ran was too small for the length they ran for headlights.
you really want to fix that at the same time.not only will the switch stop burning up,but your lights will be brighter.here is how:
Whiter Whites, Brighter Brights - Ford Trucks

new switches, pigtails and the relay mod done to both of my trucks.

While you guys are here i have another question. Im looking to get keyless entry. Found some cheap ones on amazon that come with the actuators and everything needed for a DIY. Before i go through with it im wondering if it will work with my passenger door whos power door lock does not work for whatever reason. The key is also veryyyy hard to turn. I even feel like sometimes the key is going to break when im turning it. Ill break my thump if i try pushing down the **** on the inside. Your thoughts would be much appreciated! Amazon.com : CrimeStopper SP-101 Car Security Alarm & Keyless Entry System with (4) Car Power Door Lock Actuator Motors : Car Electronics

remember, you get what you pay for. these cheap units have a limited transmit distance, usually under 100 ft without any obstructions. the better units like the viper have a 1000 ft straight line working distance, and 300-400 feet through windows/walls.

yeah this is true.if you wanted remote start this would be vital.for unlocking the doors when your about to get in and drive away, just a few feet is all ya need.....beats inserting a key, risking scratching the door, removing the key then opening the door.just hit the button while approaching and open the door.good to go.when exiting, most of the time i use the doors lock button to save on fob battery.
