I didn't see this post until just a few minutes ago (after I had been to the wrecking yard and back again).

I had already thought about this and I think I have a fairly simple solution, if the stock rod won't work.

I can take some 3/8" diameter rod, the needed length, and thread the ends. From there, I can either install Heim joints at each end or, I can install ball joint rod ends.

Man am I glad I found this thread. I just went from a shifter on the column to an aftermarket on the floor and was thinking about the same thing.
