2 experiences with in the channel visors. Neither good. No matter what the instruction said about them snapping right in and then leaving the windows up for a time to "seat" them in or putting the windows up 5 or 6 times to seat them, I could not get them to work with smart windows. Without fail the window would go up, touch the visor and go back down.
The last set I gave away and went to the 2 sided tape type. No problems whatsoever.
I have always had Vent Shade, but a recent bad experience with the double sided foam tape has me re-thinking it...
I Would prefer Made in USA...
I had the double sided tape vent visors on a 1996 F350 DRW pickup for 15 plus years with no real problems. I sold the truck 4 years ago and as far as I know, they are still on the truck. I did have one rear door loose on one end but never lifted any place else. These were installed in 45* temps. I believe if they had been installed in 75* plus temps and cleaned per instructions, there would have been no lifting.
I installed the vent visors on the 2011 F350 DRW and recently on thee 2015 F350 DRW with no evidence of lifting on either. This time i did install in warmer temps and clean/prep'd the surface prior to install.
FYI, the tape used is not foam tape like you use inside but automotive tape used to install molding on cars now days. Two totally different tapes and uses for each.
Thanks Larry - temperature at installation time may have been part of my problem as I installed them in the fall. The truck was clean and I used the alcohol pad that was included, but the doggoned thing lifted off and banged until it cracked (all within a few moments) while I was on the highway the next day..
Thanks for your post!
I use WeatherTech Window Visors. I've had them on my last 2 trucks and my dad has had them on both of his as well. We won't use any other brand. They are made in the USA as well.
The fronts just slip in and stay there. The back has a small piece of tape that attaches them to the inside of the window channel at the top. They are firmly attached when you roll the window up on them the first time.
I've had the Weathertech ones on my truck since April and I like them. The front passenger side gave me some problems at first because of the automatic windows but is working fine now. BTW, the Weathertech brand ones I have I'm pretty sure we're made in Germany, as well as my bug guard.
Great info guys... I found that WeatherTech offers both a light and dark tint version. I'm leaning toward the light tint for a slight reduction in blind-spots in the A-Pillar...
