For a number of reasons I just haven't been able to get it back in unfortunately. Oddly enough, the issue went away entirely for about a week after I greased a few areas and now it's back. I'm hoping to get it in soon but my schedule has been the worst lately. Hopefully more to come soon. Stay with me...

Be careful with this -- too much friction modifier and your "Limited Slip" becomes "Limited Grip" (open diff, essentially). What I used to do was change the gear lube, test drive. If it chattered on turns, I'd add an ounce of FM and test drive again. Repeat until chattering stops.

Welp, it's back and now with a vengeance. Made a trip down to Virginia for the weekend and now it's worse than ever. In fact, now it's accompanied by some pretty heavy chatter through 1st and 2nd. As I came off the highway the "groaning" was intense like I've never experienced. Sounded like the back axel was going to crack and bend clean off. That's extreme, but I'm trying to paint a picture.

Gotta get it in Monday...if I can limp back to Ohio. I'll give the previous dealer service one more chance and then be on to another if they aren't helpful. Stay with me to see if this saga works itself out.

So before I head to the dealer, here's the video I took yesterday with sound of the issue. Listen first to gears slipping and then the driveshaft groaning/creaking to finish before I stop.

Hi Mike,

Don't forget that my offer to assist still stands; just PM the info I listed in my prior post and I'll be happy to get your regional customer service manager involved.

Thanks Crystal. The truck is at the dealer now and I was able to recreate the issue with the tech this morning. I'll keep you updated on the issue if we can't come to some type of resolve.

UPDATE

The dealer kept the truck all day yesterday and took 2 more trips to try and nail down the issue. They had a transmission specialist and one of their truck techs in it as well. While we were able to recreate the shudder from a stop and the "groaning" they were not able to replicate the clicking type noise that some of you may have heard in the video I posted. That was the first I had ever heard that noise either and was after an 800+ mile round trip to and from Virginia. I can imagine they may not recreate that scenario.

So, the suggested solution was to service the rear differential, clean and grease the clutch packs and see how that helps the issues. If anything appears worn or loose that they can identify they will do so, but they mentioned that a full investigation would require tearing everything down and spending the day working on it. I'm generally open to the cleaning and re-greasing option because I've seen many of you have success with that exact service...although some have not had the same luck. I'll pay $130 before I spend $1,000+ though. Worth a shot.

They also identified that the groaning noise was a product of the hubs and adjusted those accordingly. The 60,000 mile service they ran also identified some significant carbon buildup on the throttle body which I had asked about as well after seeing noticeable buildup (more than normal) on the tailpipe and a significant amount of standing water from the exhaust as opposed to just a most and moisture. They'll clean things out to reduce that buildup as well.

So all said and done, I'm glad they took the time they did to investigate everything, but unfortunately time will be the telling factor in whether or not this works. I'm hopeful that this is all it takes. I'll find out later this afternoon. Thanks for everyone's input and advice as well! I'll post any developments if there are any (again, hopefully not).

-Mike
