I am new to the forum--thanks for all the useful information!
I have a question- I have a '01 AWD EB with about 100K on it. I have a slight noise when accelerating from a stop and turning, happens with as little as 5 deg steering wheel turn. 100% strait - no noise under hard acceleration. The noise is not a hard grinding noise, more like a bearing noise just a Wuba ...whuba ...wuba until you straiten out. Any ideas? could be differential but with such little turning does that sound posable? any problems with the viscous coupling that you know of?
does it matter what direction you turn? and what do your tires look like? are they nice and flat or are the feathered? is the noise coming from the front or back
I can't tell where the sound is coming from and it's both directions that I turn that noise happens. It's hard to say about the tires, i just changed them and the old tires were fairly flat (I got the truck used about 5K miles ago) there was a very slight difference in the front driver tire than the other few. I'm keeping an eye on the new tires to see if they are doing any thing funny.
it's hard to pinpoint with out hearing the noise but it could be the clutches it the rear end they tend to make a popping noise that can sound like it's the front I guess my next question do you have limited slip? also the noise could be your front cv joints
Thanks for the tips. The 6 months I'v had the truck it hasn't gotten any worse. when the weather breaks (hopefully soon here in sunny Charlotte, NC) I plan to change every fluid and see if that improves anything. I had some trans issues in my old Crown Vic and new fluid took care of them all!
