I bought a 2000 F350 with the 7.3 four door, it is a duel wheel axle, I am wanting to make it a single wheel axle instead of the duel wheel, I have the single wheel bed to change it over, how can I , or can I do this with out swapping the rear end out.
If I knew then what I know now about the duel wheel rear end I would have bought the single rear end truck, I am a guide and hunt up and down the east coast with this truck and the rear end is just to big in alot of places, I do not want to sell it or trade it in on another truck, I got a good deal on this truck and could not pass it up, all though now I think I should have past on it, heck I have to park way out in wal mart parking lot and walk a half of a mile to the door, no getting close with this baby. Help me if you can .
So the axle will not stick out too far from the side of the truck and look stupid. Just regular rims will work, I know on the front I will have to take the spacers out but that is not big deal.
I would measure the rear axle from one wheel mounting surface to the other. Then find out (probably here) what the 10.5 inch Visteon rear is and see if it's the same. You should have a Dana 80 I think. It is not the same as a single rear wheel rear axle.
There are plenty of people who would be willing to buy the rear axle from you, maybe even the dually truck bed too, to do a conversion. The DRW axle is a Dana 80 on the 1999+ trucks, and a Sterling axle is used on the SRW F250 and F350 trucks.
Yes I have a dana 410 rear end, I realy do not want to swap rear ends but if I have to I will, I would like to keep it as it came from the factory exept for the two wheels and bed . I am going to try the F250 rims and see if it works.
I bought two F250 rims and they did not work, is there any kind of rim I need to look for, I used the standard rims off of a F250, It looked to me the rims stuck out to far. I will try any suggestions , is there something I need to take off of the axle or a sertain rim size I need to buy to look ok on the truck. I am not a mechanic so if I have to take things off of the axle I will have to have some one do it for me.
I might be just shooting in the dark here about this matter but to me it is worth a try to get it a single wheel instead of a duel wheel.
