Hey everybody I have a 97 f350 with a built e40d. Its been acting like it doesn't want to go from 2nd to 3rd for a few months. I had the tranny flushed and it shifted top notch for a few days. Now it acts like it doesn't want to go into gear and its leaking tranny fluid from that real thin plate on the front of the tranny where it bolts to the block. Is there a line in there that they hook to for flushing it that might be lose? Or is this supposedly 2nd to the torque converter going out? Or a front seal perhaps?
Sounds like a front seal. Who "built" your trans? Seal is not hard to replace, but it shouldn't cause a shifting issue as long as you are keeping your fluid level topped. Ask me how I know.
What do I need to do to do the seal? Or how much to have a place like ammco do it?
Pull the trans and it is at the input shaft. I don't know what somebody would charge you. You would have to call them and ask. I would also make sure that it is what's leaking but it's my bet that it is. Mine was pouring fluid from that point before I got the new transmission put in. It was pretty obvious when they pull the old one since the inside of the bell housing was covered in fluid dripping from the same place you talked about.
