this is the first time I post something here my name is Alex and I own a Ford f250 1992 XLT with a 351 in it and yeah Im from Canada,Quebec
My question today I own another ford f250 XLT Lariat 7.3 Diesel (same year too)
but the body is pretty rought I wanted to swap my Gaz f250 body on my diesel one can it be done.
Both truck are identical FORD F250 XLT 8 foot Box BUT my gaz truck is 2wd and take 11MPG and have 259 000km on it
My diesel have 327 000 km have some oil leak from valve cover and oil pan ( have to spend 200-500 $ on the block to get it perfect and its 4x4 and it does 19mpg ( I prefert my diesel way better from my gaz truck ) but my body is really bad on the diesel one.
My question today can it be done and if yeah would you do it or stay with the 5.8... ( my mecanic tell me to keep that 351 haha )
i want to lift the truck about 9 inch with 35 tire
I'd have a good look at the cabs of both trucks before swapping. Doors, box and front clip will change easy enough and that covers about 90% of your sheetmetal. If the roof is decent, consider repairing the cab before swapping.
Big advantage here is that you retain your VIN. Registration can be a real hassle if the VIN tag does not match the truck. There also is a frame VIN as well as an electronic VIN in the ECU.
If you must change the cab, you will have to swap out the wiring harness for the diesel. All can be done, but it is a lot of work. Cab corners, floor and rockers would be less work and you want to be sure these items don't need repair anyways on your gas cab.
Check with the state on the VIN issue first. If that's not a problem then yes, if they're the same year the cabs swap but as already said the whole harness needs to swap. Compare to repairing the rust on the old cab.
