My son rebuilt the 4R100 on my 2001 F350 about 1,500 miles ago and we put on the PI Stallion triple disc converter at the time. It has now developed a chatter or vibration right at about 48 mph and it only happens when I hit that speed in OD under a load. If I drop it down to 3rd it goes away.
We swapped out the drive line to make sure it was not a u-joint or center bearing and that did not fix it. I am now moving to the back and changing the carrier and pinion bearings to see if a problem could have developed back there. It does not appear to have a miss in the engine that could also be giving me that feel if I had a bad injector under torque.
My question is, is there anything internal in the tranny that could be making that chatter at that speed other than the TC?
What engine is in the truck? You are describing a low grade misfire, which is a common problem on the gas engines. It is caused by either a spark plug or ignition coil on it's way out.
I read a couple of your other posts regarding the chattering problem I described above and saw you mention a possible issue with the ATF used and the TC. As I noted, I used a triple disc converted from PI and Torque-Drive Synthetic ATF after the rebuild. Do you see any compatibility issues with that combination?
