I recently noticed a huge difference in how my ex runs when I use 89 octane that has no ethnol verses when I run 87 with 10 percent ethnol .both fuels are from different gas stations.truck runs great with the no ethnol .has better pick up and idols way better.has anyone else noticed this? Is the v10 supposed to be run with a higher octane?

You will also get better fuel mileage with non-ethanol. Octane rating doesnt have anything to do with it. It's the ethanol content that is the difference.
What ExploringNH said, he knows his stuff. The only way you can get any use out of a higher octane is if you are using a tuner set-up for that octane. I run both non-ethanol (when I can afford it) and 87 and can't tell a ton of difference but I know the internals are There is about $1.75 difference between the 2 here so I can't always afford to get it

$1.75 difference in the price of real gas and 10% ethanol gas? Holy moly! Ethanol has about 50% of the BTUs of gas, IIRC. Even if you get a little better mileage with the good stuff, that price difference would never make it worthwhile, unless there's really a noticeable difference in how your ride runs.

E85 is 73-83% of the energy content of gasoline. E10 is about 96%
My 50% BTUs statement was referring to the energy content of 100% gasoline vs 100% ethanol. According to this chart I was fairly close (for an old fart, anyways, it's 67% not 50%):
When we're talking about blends of 10% ethanol, you'd have to say that only 10% of your fuel load (the ethanol) has 67% of the energy of real gas… the rest is 100%
Or we could just start putting tomatoes and carrots in the gas too. That corn is getting lonely! I'm sure when the car was invented they though "Hey, let's make this thing run on food instead of gas so we can use up all this food we don't have!"
Only 10 cents diffrence here in wi.and I can't find the cheaper stuff whithout ethnol. So ill pay the difference for better milage and a smoother runningtruck.llol.
Yeah, and DEF now... How else can big brother screw up a smooth running engine?!? Also out of all seriousness I am an environmentalist (that drives an X, I know) so I'm all for less emissions but at what cost?!? Hybrids, great concept, but costly to build. If we just take care of the vehicles already on the road we don't have to shred the old ones, melt them down just to make new ones that we'll do the same thing with!
