My truck is a 1999 F-250 Super Duty 7.3 diesel. My left turn signal is fine. My right turn signal is going fast. The rear blinker lights up, but the front does not. So... no brainer... change the front bulb. I did. Twice. Sylvania 3157. It did not fix the problem... Any clues? Thanks.
Hi, the socket is fine. This truck may be old, but is in immaculate condition. The guy I bought it from is ****. Ha. The parking light DOES illuminate. I tried a bulb from the gas station and when that didn't work, I went to Auto Zone and bought a Sylvania as was in the vehicle before. Still nothing. I will find my hubby's test light to check the socket. In the meantime, any more suggestions?
check the pin in the socket...it might have a layer of corrosion that has tarnished the blinker contact....see if you can get the contacts out where you can burnish them with some steel wool....you might have to put in a new pigtail socket...
usually a fast blinker means a light that is out. Turn on all the lights and do a walk around. if all are lit then hit the brake and see if one does not come on.
Since it is a blinker it should not be a brake light but rather a turn signal/parking filament
On the back of the truck, the blinker and the brake light are one and the same thing, that is, a single filament inside the bulb lights for both functions. On the front, running (parking) light and the turn signal are NOT the same thing, they are separate filaments, usually in the same bulb.
In any event, the problem is an open circuit for the turn signal lamp on the front passenger side of the vehicle, somewhere between the internals of the MFS and the filament inside the bulb.
Yes, right front bulb is not lighting. I haven't had a chance to get out the tester to shove that in the socket yet. I was busy watching the Packer game.
I will get to it today and report back. Thanks so far!
How odd. The blinker decided to start working. I had changed the bulb twice and it still didn't work. I hopped in my truck yesterday and happened to notice it was working. Somewhere there must be a short that will need to be taken care of, but it's too cold to worry about that now. Thanks everyone!
Had something similar happen on a 96....I think has to do with corrosion between the bulb contacts and the socket contacts...happened once in 208,000 miles...fiddled with bulb and the socket...started working and was working 3 years later when i sold it...
