So I' m having some more troubles with the old psd. After the fiasco breakdown in az. Things seemed to be ok. Then all of a sudden my truck won't start! It sounds like a SD at 30 deg below 0. If I plug it in it starts fine. By the way it is only getting to 30 or so at night. I tested the glow plugs and I have at least 3 that are bad. May be more. So when I am in replacing the glow plugs , what else should i do? Injector o rings? Or up grade injectoers while I'm at it. Stage 1 or 2s?
I believe these injectors have 180k on them. Time for a rebuild?
On the glow plug thing.... I'm wounding if ford did not connect the wires well and that's why I lost them all of a sudden.,,
I hate feeling like the truck is running like sheeeeet.
I would do the O-rings for sure if 180K on em. You may find your harness(es) is/are bad too so it may co$t a lttle more than just plugs. When ya plannen on doing this?
Unless you just want to install new injectors I would have a cylinder contribution test done first to determine if you have any bad injectors. Other than that just install new motorcraft glow plugs and check the gp relay to make sure that it isn't malfunctioning. I was told many years ago that when one or more glow plugs go bad it will shorten the life of the remaining working ones because it puts more voltage to them. I don't know if that's true or not but it's feasible. I would inspect all the harnesses and connectors while you have the valve covers off. I don't feel that mileage determines anything about o-rings or injectors as I've worked on a few with many more miles on it than yours and there where no problems with them.
I'd do o rings for sure. Bet that is part of you starting problem. Id do a buzz test and contribution test. Also monitor your icp and ipr DC while cranking.

Any how thanks all!

If I were doing this , I would verify the pass through connections on the gaskets are good & replace the UVCH 's ,, After pulling the covers , run the engine watch the spill spouts cold & warm. Also look for oil bubbling up from the base of any of the injectors .. It wouldn't hurt to replace the O rings on the injectors . Lastly , new sticks ...
Great thanks for the thoughts!
I have replaced gps and injectors on my old psd.
But I will need some help on a few things
I ve never run a buzz test. Is there a write up some where? Do I need specal equipment?
Same for a contribution test? In fact this is the first I've heard of it... What is it?
Monitor the icp and ipr ?.?? New to me too!
Action 4478, are you say in you would replace the uvch for sure? Or just if it tested bad?
Copedawg, I plan on doing this in the next week or so.
So ucvh for sure, ok check, as far as injectors go, Rose wood will do a budget overhaul for $500, or an up geade to stage 1, or an up grade to stage 2 for $900' not too bad, I don't have an Ic yet, so I wonder about egt's .
So since I don't have a good scan tool. My list is
Gps
Uvch,
Injector o rings or rebuild / upgrade injectors,
Check torque on rocker arms... Never done that before is it hard?
I just pulled the passenger side vc,, I had 2 bad gps, I replaced them with some old spares I had ( auto lites don't tell). The truck started right up. Wires looked good, no oil form the base f the injectors.. I think I will run to town and pick up some morcraft gps.. To replace all 4 then close it back up. I don't think I will mess with the injectors for now.. It runs..
Is this a bad idea? I'm I just lazy and setting my self up to be sorry latter?

Should I do the o rings... At least on this side?
Thanks much j
You said it runs great ,(no leaks) just started hard ,, Put MC 's in it and drive it .. Harness would have been the only thing I would have changed ,because it will fail .. & only cause I was already in there ...
