When you refer to "the mechanical pump", are you talking about that unit sitting on the bottom of the engine valley under everything? I had that part replaced 5 years ago and the mechanic referred to it as the secondary fuel pump, and said it was driven off the camshaft? I will admit I know way more about gas burners than I do diesels.

I am still relatively new too, only had mine for a year and a half...its been sitting with the engine and trans out for a year now...money is short...
I have spent that year diving through old threads reading...its been helpful and confusing... but the guys here will help sort it all out. I have met a few of them at a couple of events...
This is a good one if you can get to it...there is a was a west coast one last year...

I can't find glenn's thread where some of the guys here did a little more than an engine swap in a weekend... Maybe glenn will post a link to his thread for that...
On to your questions:
I believe that is the only fuel pump our trucks have....on the 7.3's the injectors bump up the fuel pressure...I though it was on the side of the block, and yes driven of cam, why you have to make sure it is at top dead center to the piece doesn't drop into the block when removing the pump.

Strictly Diesel has a really nice kit. I run their fuel system on my Super Duty and the quality is top notch. Great company to do business with.
Marty's Diesel. I'm putting their system on my OBS right now. Quality is great and instructions seem thorough. Again, great company to do business with.
You can't go wrong with either one of those fuel systems.

Actually no lol. I only deliver Next Day Air (overnight) packages. So unless I order something Next Day, someone else brings it. Most of the time, the driver just sits it on the desk at work and I pick it up when I get there lol
Typically most companies ship via USPS or FedEx. Iv actually signed for a FedEx package wearing my UPS uniform

I know I'm late to the party but +3 to the strictly diesel kit. I installed it in a week after work a a pretty slow pace. Worst part was taking the turbo off the first time. Probably spent more time removing the turbo than I did installing the whole rest of the kit.
Great customer support too. They gave me pointers for my bellowed up pipe install after helping me with the efuel questions I had. Can't say enough good things about those guys.
