I've got a 1964 f100 that did not come with a radio from the factory. I would like to install one but I'm not sure where to put speakers or where to put the radio itself. Pictures of any aftermarket radios and speakers would be awesome along with some advice! I've heard about putting speakers in the door panels but I've seen water inside of mine so should I try to go with marine or boat speakers? Thanks everyone for the help!
If your dash has never been drilled for a radio I would leave it that way.
A hidden radio is the ticket.
Speakers are tough since they cant go behind the seat.
You could take the panels off the door and make some out of plywood and put speakers in there with waterproof baffles. I wouldn't cut the original panels.
If you would like a radio that mounts in the stock location and looks almost exactly stock, yet has stereo FM as well as AM plus more modern plug-ins and Bluetooth hands free phone, Retrosound makes a Huntington model reproduction radio that does all that and can be bought for $330 from several vendors. It's listed for the '66 - '77 Bronco, but is the same as would have been in the F100. You would have to drill three round holes in your dash to accommodate how the original factory radio would have been mounted back in the day. I mounted my speakers in the door panels and used '66 Mustang door speaker grilles (available from most vintage Mustang parts suppliers) for a period correct look. Hope you find what you're looking for.
I have a radio in my 64 and the speakers in the door panels. Can anyone tell me how to replace the antenna? Mine is broken off and I get zero reception
I put my speakers under the seat. I built speaker boxes to in close 4 x 9 speakers. The boxes are sound insulated to keep the sound moving forward. I drilled a 1" pressure relief hole in the upper corner of the face plate. Make sure the olms match the radio. If they are put together correct, they can put out some great sound.
I have the oem radio in the dash but it has no speaker, Im fine with that.
Since I had my upholstery done, I have had no music. I did have my 8-track player, at least that was something. Now I need music. Silence is fine but it's been to long.
Lewellen: Since nobody replied to your question...take off the retaining nut on the outside of the fender. Unplug the antenna at the radio, follow and un"tangle" the cable. The antenna drops into the fender and is retrieved through the large fresh air duct that goes to the heater.
