49 F100 Rat Rod questions

Wanting to start my first build and On my local Craigslist I found a great 49 f100 cab and hood on a model a frame but don't know if it's something good to start with. The roof has been cut from the truck which isn't a big deal. Only wants $300 for all of it. Currently am doing a cv swap in my 63 f100 and didn't know if I could use the straight axle from that on the front of this.

A rat rod can be started with anything, so not sure what you are asking. Would I use a model A frame? No, but maybe you would. Check out ratrodsrule.com or killbillet.com for builds closer to what you want.

Hood is from a 51. Thre's not even $300 worth in scrap. I'd stay away. Save the $300 and use it to buy something better that actually resembles a truck and will give you a better starting point. Good rule of thumb is the more you spend up front, the less you will spend later.

It's been on Craigslist for months. You could probably get it for $100 if you really want it.

I have to agree. That's not really a truck, it's just a pile of parts. And not many of them at that. You would have to buy/fabricate everything, and then pray you can get a title for it.

To answer your question about the '63 axle, I think you'll find it is quite a bit wider than this "truck".
