The adjusting arm is slotted a bit wider than the shank of a 3/8-16 bolt. (about 10mm)
The clamping bolt that needs to fit that arm is 8x1.25mm on the 3g alternator.
This is a picture of the 7752 housing.
You can see the 'bridge' in the adjuster ear and it is noted "8x1.25"
Take a tap and make it 3/8-16.
The alternator is installed upside down from this illustration.
When I set the new alternator side by side with the old one it's a little longer from bolt hole to bolt hole. Will it still work? Seems like it should bc that arm adjusts.

Yes, same thing happened to me. You'll need a 36" belt because of it.
That's the belt I used. Those are the only belts I will use. Put it on, readjust it 3 times to keep it tight. Mine never squeaks on start up or at all with a single V belt.
The 36" belt will be a tight fit to get it on, but it fits. By the time you re stretch it 3 times it's almost in the middle of the adjustment.
I think anyone who uses a V-belt pulley on a 3G is going to need to shim it.
One of the 3G threads on FSB had a picture and part number for a shim washer that was available at home depot.
I have not been able to find those washers lately, but that is what I used 5 or so years ago when I made the switch.
