Hi Guys long time stalker first time poster...Purchased a 1986 f250 6.9l about 2 months ago and starting to have some issues, i think all fuel related.......First i know the Fuel tank selector valve is leaking and have one on order form Rock gonna replace this weekend, not sure if it will clear up problem......Starts fine and runs well until about 5-7 gallons into either tank and then runs like real dog turd..She will studded and act like running out of fuel. I know there have been post about the pick up breaking but 5-7 gallons in seams early for that??? Also there are some return caps leaking, not too bad, i have the kit to repair but thought this was mostly a start up issue? What more info can i give or any ideas?
Actually, about 5 gallons is when you'd expect it to do this, if it's the pick-up showerhead issue. May be a combination of that and the selector valve leak.
Anyway, I'll be curious to see how your selector valve R&R goes. Which one did you order? Seems like all the replacements have all four front and rear tank ports pointing downward from the bottom, whereas the OEM has the rear tank ports pointing backward from the back. I wonder if those rear lines are long enough and flexible enough to connect the end fittings into the downward-facing ports on the replacement valve. My valve is "half-lazy"; works fine switching front to rear, but when switching rear to front, it sticks until you rap on it. Can't seem to find a replacement with the ports physically configured like the OEM.
Additional info....So this just start happening recently when it got "cold" in tn. Ran full tank before.....and it is both tanks which seems like too much of a coincidence
Ok so that does make sence. I was reading it as with a 1/4 tank left not after a 1/4 tank. So the one i bought has 2 up 2 back and 2 down. I will find the link to the one i bought tonight
inspect your vents in the tanks, and remember, your fuel system has about 3lbs of pressure, to the ip, and when parked about 16lbs of pressure trying to get in somewhere so it may not drip, but air may be able to get in. check all hoses, and fittings
I got my fuel selector valve off the website ac delco, but the company that makes it is called polka and they sell the selector valve with the pig tail harness where ac delco doesnt
^^^^^ That's Pollak (unless you like traditional Polish dance... ). Pollak made the OEM selectors in many (if not all) of the early Ford diesels. But even the Pollak selector valves I've seen available online have all four tank ports pointing down. So you found one with one set of tank port pointing aft? Or did you find a way to make those aft tank lines reach the downward-pointing ports?
When I had to replace mine, the new one was universal and not compatible with the quick connectors on the plastic fuel lines, so I simply cut off the fittings and used rubber fuel hose to connect it.
ok so tried the new valve and it is all wrong...So excuse the ignorance but what is the best process to check the vents while i am hunting for a good valve?
