Well, I am back in Kabul, but I did get to spend a few weeks with the green beast. Capital Diesel in Holts Summit, Mo did a fantastic job waking up the 7.3 psd. 4" down pipe, 4" exhaust from the turbo back, Edge Evolution tuner, hi flow dual air filters and a complete gauge package mounted on the A pillar. Even just running on the mid level setting, this thing will really get down the road!
I have to say that this thing draws a crowd like no other vehicle I have ever owned. Came out of the local home improvement store to find four guys freezing their asses off waiting for me. They just had to talk to whoever it was that owned that crazy assed van. Even my wife, who was not impressed when I told her that I had bought a van, is a convert! Looking forward to getting it off the pavement some time in the future.
Way cool ! Check out Expedition Portal website and you will realize
you are not crazy !
Are those factory rims that have been powder coated ?
Thank you for your service to our country.
SEMPER FI !
Thanks! I visit that site every once in a while to admire some of the awesome builds. The rims are the factory alloys that were powder coated by the builder. They're not bad, but I am looking to step up to a bigger wheel and tire combo. Nothing insane, but I think a 20" rim with 35's would look good and still keep the drivability decent.
Hi, Im wondering after a year with this Crows 4x4 build how you are liking it. I have heard horror stories of this guys conversions and would like to know what your experience has been. Thanks
I know what you mean. I heard lots of the same stories, after I bought it of course... I've actually been really happy with it. I've had it to an off-road park here in Mid-Mo a couple times and haven't been able to break anything. The conversion pieces are all Ford stuff, so no worries there. Their fabrication work does leave a little to be desired. I had a shop go through the van and check it out for anything obvious. They redid the steering stabilizers, one tie rod, and added air bags to help the rear suspension. The only other thing that I have noticed is that their powder coating on the bumpers, roof rack, and side steps is starting to show a little surface rust at the joints and welds. None of these were huge issues to me. I have to say, given the price difference between these and the vans from other builders, I am happy with it. The only unresolved issue is the horrible turning radius. It's worse than a crew, 4x4 dually I used to own. Still working on that...
I guess it's been a while since I posted some updates. Conquest Off-Road in Columbia Mo took my van up a notch. M/T wheels and tires, Dometic self contained awning, rear air bags, and vented hood to keep things cool.
That is a wonderful piece of hardware...I still want to see the interior...and...while you're at it, maybe a bikini-clad babe laid back in a lounge chair on the roof rack!
The interior is mostly stock. I did pull out the very last seat and used the seat mounts to bolt down a gun box. Other than that and some sound system upgrades it's stock. I like being able to use it as a people hauler.
